Days of women and song
by Becky McMahon
Green, Ohio--Hundreds of women descended upon the Pine Valley Lake Park and Campgrounds near Akron June 24-26 for the second annual Women?s International Music Festival.
The women-only event drew attendees and entertainers from ?all four corners of the U.S. and Canada,? said organizer Donna Shawver of Youngstown.
The entertainment line-up included music icons like Canadians Amber Swift, Lucie Blue Tremblay and the Jealous Pet band, national artists including Sonia and Disappear Fear, Tret Fure, Kara Barnard, Wishing Chair and Karen Grenier. These joined Ohio favorites like Donna Mogavero and the bands of Anne E. DeChant, Alexis Antes and Robin Stone. Comedian and actor Karen Williams, along with the high energy dancing performed by the duo Fire and Desire, rounded out the entertainment scorecard.
Plans are already underway for next year?s festival.
?Any time you can have an event like this and say there?s going to be a ?next year,? is a success? added Shawver. ?We?ve already started planning for next year and encourage anyone interested in sharing ideas or learning more to visit the festival?s website at www.wimfest.com.?
